Our founder Barbara had the pleasure to have a wonderful conversation with internationally recognised Author, Sickle Cell Warrior & CEO of Painless Universal
Anne Welsh.
A conversation with Barbara Biosah, the founder of fashion brand DUMEBI
After purchasing Anne Welsh book, Barbara was so inspired by how insightful and encouraging it was so she reached out to Anne via instagram, in which they clicked straight away. Anne was lovely and gracious enough to invite Barbara to have a conversation with her and talk about her journey with Sickle Cell Anaemia and being a fashion Designer
Born and raised in London, Barbara @barbara_dumebi suffers from a health condition called Sickle cell Anaemia – an inherited blood disorder that affects the red blood cells.
As a young girl, whenever she was unwell or had to go to the hospital, fashion was always her escape. As she got older her creativity grew. She would ask her mum to bring her sketchbook to the hospital so she could draw, and it brought her so much Joy.
Her faith in God, passion and love for fashion motivated her to get well and stay well. She had dreams of a bright future to look forward to. She binged watched ‘Project Runway’, the reality TV show that puts contestants against each other to find the next top fashion designer. The show was filmed at the world renowned NYC fashion school ‘Parsons’. It was Barbara’s dream school and she worked hard, with her reward being accepted into the Bachelor of Fashion Design Course at Parsons.
For Barbara, this was a big eye-opener she realised that with hard work any goal is achievable. Since this watershed, she has been blessed with participation in fashion weeks & competitions internationally. She has shown her collections during Fashion Weeks in Paris, Shanghai, London and at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival in 2019.
